  1. the good news is it can be converted to LED or NDS back light this
    increases battery life and drops internal temps. the LED mods has uneven
    back light however i believe there is abetter way to evenly light with the
    LED mod.

  4. sorry to hi jack but, FUCK YEAH! I have the soldering to skillz and was
    looking for just this kind of how to video. exactly what i was looking for.
    if there is how ever another reason for the wacked screen color/contrast,
    do you have another other how tos or is it almost always the caps?

  6. Like I said in the video, don't buy the caps that I bought. Buy the ones
    your system needs. Different models will need different caps. Consider this
    video an example and order the capacitors that your system requires based
    on your own inspection.

  7. I'm having issues finding a 130 uF capacitor for sale. I checked my board
    and the cap that you say is to be rated for 130 uF at 6.3V is labeled at
    100uF at 6.3V. I have the one ASIC chip model so that could be it, but i'm
    not sure. I checked other guides online and none of them mention a 130 uF
    capacitor. Could you elaborate on this?

  8. I'm having trouble identifying which capacitor is the one that's bad.
    Should I just replace all of them?

  9. It's probably more than one. In the long run it would be better to replace
    them all. Those old capacitors will just keep degrading.

  10. If the μFmatches the voltage can be equal or higher than the original. So
    if the original is 130μF 6.3v you can use 130μF 250v. So long as it isn't
    less than 6.5v you will be fine.

  11. I'm trying to find all of the capacitors to do this to my Game Gear but
    cannot seem to find the 130μF 6.3V. The best I can find has 250V. Is that
    ok? I'm in the UK so it may be harder to find over here.

    for replacing the LCD screen as well?

  14. Quick question, is it safe to use capacitors with a greater voltage rating
    (e.g. using a 50V instead of 6.3V)? My local electronics store doesn't
    carry anything below 50V on some capacitors. Thanks!

  15. Sorry, but no. I've seen some mods that replace the screen with a modern
    LCD display, but it requires a lot of work and the end result isn't worth
    it in my opinion.

  16. There is no way to replace the LCD screen and still have full screen
    display fro Game Gear games. The only way to do it is to do an RGB
    modification and install a small modern LCD screen. But Game Gear games
    have a black board around them in RGB mode. SO after a very complex mod you
    end up with a smaller display.

  18. What kind of soldering iron is recommended for working on these? I have a
    really cheap one that isn't working. The bad solder might have something to
    do with it too...

  19. My game gear only shows horizontal lines. Occasionally when I first turn it
    on I quickly see the splash screen, then it goes to horizontal lines. I can
    still hear the game running (I hear the music playing), so it isn't a game
    issue. How can I fix this?

  20. @thedevlinlee Try taking the Game Gear apart and locating the copper pads
    for Button 1. They may be corroded. Just rub them with a white eraser until
    they are shiny again. Blow away the eraser shavings and rub some alcohol on
    them with a cotton swab. Check the actual plastic button to make sure it's
    clean as well. Let it dry, put the system back together and see if that did
    the trick. If that doesn't do it, there may be a bad capacitor, but I can't
    say for sure.

  22. The voltage can be equal to or higher than what's printed on the capacitor.
    If it's 16v than you can use 16v, 20v, 30v etc. I don't have an external
    battery pack so I can't really help you. I do know that rechargeable
    batteries don't last for ever. It might be better to just buy modern
    rechargeable AA batteries.

  23. It will probably need to be fixed. You can buy dials like that, but the
    tricky part is finding the right size.You might want to go to an electronic
    repair shop and get some help finding the right sized part.

  24. I have only tried batteries, cause i don´t have PSU or adapter. i have
    already ordered new caps . well, i have tons of cotton swabs, but no
    rubbing alcohol ( i have only Windex, may i use it ? ) but yeah, can i use
    vodka or methanol to clean contacts ? gamervalter
