The quick and dirty way to fix a locked up hard drive. I suspect user may have dropped the laptop it was in.

  1. Lol how do you flash the rom after that? the rom will not work even if its
the same drive. The rom is like bios you can not alter that. So this is
just a other BS video. Sounds to good to be true. Ps testing this sins back
    in the stone age 1987.

    side down???

  16. This is the same technique I used to solve My ticking hard drive...Could
not access the data on the hard drive with usb Universal Hard Drive Adapter
cables (bought on ebay). No HD was indicated. My clicking HD was the C
drive on My edit computer. I have five Identical HDdrives on that system.
One serving as the C drives..the other four were connected as an array. I
simply, borrowed a PCB (circuit board) from one of the HD in the
array..replaced it on the failing C Drive. Data then recoverable.

  19. What a shame so many HDD problems are because of cheap PCBs. Makes me sick.
What a way to save a few bucks, eh?

  20. Swapping PCB only work on older drive newest drive on the market cannot use
    this method anymore.

  21. if you do Hard Drive Circuit Board Firmware Transfer, swapping the PCB
still work for most new Hard Drives

  22. @HDDRescue I'm looking to buy a new PCB because my hardrive stopped being
recognized by the computer. My hardrive spins up fine ( sounds same as when
it was working , and doesn't have a clicking noise to it when powered on. )
So would buying a new PCB allow me access to my data again? A computer tech
I brought it to also said that it sounds fine, and that it's not being
recognized because of a bad PCB. And why are gloves worn when changing
    PCB's? Thanks ^^

  23. @Co0lFlame Depends on exactly how it sounds and what happened. This one had
the head stuck on the platter with the platters spun down - usually the
head should have been parked off the platter before the platters spin down.
If it sounds exactly like this - it's the platter motor that can't spin up
and trying again and again to spin up. Just open up and keep dust away,
plug in the hard drive as you spin the screw on the top away from the
head's direction. Do not touch the platter!

  26. This hard drive is a bit older, it has an ATA connector. I'm using an ATA
to USB adapter to power it up and read the data outside of a computer. A
hard drive can make this noise too if the hard drive is underpowered by a
weak usb port and can't spin up, but in this case, that isn't the problem-
just stuck heads on the platters from a drop, squish or just plain
physically abused mechanical hard drive. Suspected that the owner's son
wanted owner to buy a new computer, as it happened multiple times

  27. @brentrjones: did that to a hard drive with bad sectors or head crash
(can't remember) - 1 out of a thousand chances that slamming it against the
floor and table would help but I actually had it start reading long enough
to see data for a bit, but died again shortly after. We do crazy stuff to
make various things work when it looks hopeless.
